Yin Yoga
Slow down. Release deeply. Create more space.
Yin yoga classes on the Isle of Man
Life can feel busy, noisy and constantly "on". Yin yoga offers something different.
Instead of moving quickly from one posture to the next, Yin invites you to slow down. Poses are held for several minutes, giving your body time to soften, your mind time to settle and your nervous system space to unwind.
Whether you're looking to improve flexibility, ease stress, recover from an active lifestyle or simply enjoy an hour of stillness, Yin yoga offers a gentle yet powerful practice that meets you exactly where you are.
At SPACE, our classes are welcoming, unhurried and suitable for all experience levels.

What is Yin yoga?
Unlike more dynamic styles of yoga that focus on strengthening muscles and flowing movement, Yin yoga works with the body's deeper connective tissues, including fascia, ligaments and joints.
Each posture is held for around 3-5 minutes (sometimes longer), allowing the body to gradually release without force or strain.
Rather than trying to achieve a perfect shape, Yin yoga encourages you to work with your own unique body. We believe yoga should fit your body, not the other way around.
This functional approach means you'll never be expected to look like anyone else in the room. Props, modifications and different variations are all part of the practice.
The stillness also creates an opportunity to notice what's happening beneath the surface. Many students find Yin becomes just as much a practice for the mind as it is for the body.
Why practise Yin yoga?
Improve flexibility
Gentle, sustained stretches encourage healthy mobility without forcing your body.
Calm your nervous system
Slow movement and longer holds help activate your natural relaxation response.
Reduce stress
Create space to slow down, breathe deeply and step away from everyday pressures.
Support healthy joints
Yin targets connective tissue to encourage resilience and healthy movement.
Improve mindfulness
Learn to become more present with your body, breath and thoughts.
Balance a busy lifestyle
Whether you sit all day or train at the gym, Yin provides the perfect counterbalance.
My first Yin class was a revelation...
"My first Yin class was a revelation to me – being both incredibly relaxing and intense and challenging at the same time. I felt so calm and renewed afterwards. This is now my weekly body maintenance – by keeping up with practice I think I've saved on many visits to the osteopath as my neck and back never get as tensed up as they used to by the end of a school term!"

What happens in a Yin yoga class?
If it's your first class, here's what you can expect.

- Throughout the class, you'll move through a carefully chosen sequence of seated and lying postures, holding each pose for several minutes.
- There's no pressure to push deeper. Instead, Dee will encourage you to find an appropriate sensation before relaxing into stillness.
- The atmosphere is quiet, peaceful and non-competitive.
- Many students leave feeling lighter, calmer and more connected with themselves.
